Despite some unexpected changes, like Kristen and I being reassigned to seats in different rows for our flight from JFK to Paris, we made it to Porto on time. All of our bags even made it at the same time we did too. We’ll call that a small travel miracle.
We were both tired, but we couldn’t just relax when we got there. We needed to immediately get moving on getting our apartment outfitted. On Sunday the entire contents of the apartment included:
- A desk chair (in box, needing to be assembled)
- A desk (in box, needing to be assembled)
- A mattress (in vacuum sealed plastic)
- Two camp chairs (from owner of the apartment)
- A short handled broom
That plus the clothes in our luggage was all we had at that point. As a result, pretty much every day this week has had it’s own little mini-routine: get up and get ready, go shopping for something new, come home and unload shopping, go to work. We’re not done, but we are making progress. The kitchen is getting closer to fully outfitted, we have a couch and TV arriving today and we are looking for a bed and side tables to match up with our mattress.

On the plus side Zelda, our family dog, arrived a little travel worn but otherwise doing well on Monday. She took a little bit to get used to the new place and the fact that she has to ride in an elevator to go to the bathroom, but is happily barking at people as they walk by my office window this morning.
